Pastured Turkey Info
We offer whole pasture-raised, grass fed, broad-breasted turkeys starting the end of October of each year until we are sold out. Deposits taken all year round. Our turkeys are freshly frozen, sustainably, humanely and responsibly raised on our family pasture that is here close to our home. Our turkey flocks are never given any hormones or antibiotics, and they live on grassy pastures free of pesticide, insecticide, and chemicals where they hunt, peck, scratch, and eat native grasses, weeds, flowers, bugs grubs, and anything else out there that piques their interest. Our turkeys eat a diverse diet and are supplemented with feed and grit. This grazing process allows them to convert up to 40% of their diet from pasture forage into body mass. They do this freely within protected, mobile tractors to keep them stress-free from predators until they are too large for the tractors, then we move them into a larger, cross-fenced paddock area where they are rotationally grazed through.
To us, the turkeys serve an even larger purpose while doing what they love… grazing and eating. Turkeys have the ability to change the life of soil. Our turkeys get to graze within our cattle pasture, where they have the ability to turn land into productive pastures, here’s how… their strong and heavy feet disturb the soil surface that aerates the soil and prepares the land for new grasses that want to grow. Their foraging and natural behaviors helps to spread and move manure around, increasing soil nutrition. Our turkeys play an important role in our regenerative cycle.
Pastured Turkey Deposit & Pricing
We do require a deposit to hold your turkey of $50. The remaining balance (final weight x $12.00/lb.) minus the deposit will be billed to the customer’s email a few days before pickup. Pickup dates will be arranged sometime around the beginning of November of each year. We typically have 2 sizes of birds. They average out to be around 17 lbs. give or take (medium = 16-20, large = 16.1 + lb.). When you reserve your turkey please specify in the notes or shoot me an email what size you would prefer and we will do our best to accommodate you, no guarantees. Please plan to order enough turkey to allow for 2 lbs. of turkey per person at Thanksgiving dinner. For example, if you have 10 people coming for Thanksgiving dinner, I would recommend ordering at least a 20 lb. turkey.
Cooking Tips:
These turkeys will take around 72 hours to thaw in the fridge. The larger the turkey the more time you will need to thaw. We dry brine our turkey for around 22 hours, let it come to room temp for 1.5 hours, pat it dry, stuff it with herbs, lemon, veggies & fruit, baste it with solid butter, and roast it. The smell is divine and it will turn out absolutely delicious! Super moist, tender, and flavorful. After roasting and removing the meat, we take the giblets, wing tips & other bones & make 4+ quarts of excellent stock in the instant pot. We try to let nothing go to waste. Enjoy!
